  • Alumni Spotlight: Sarah Jane Bujold
Even after their time with the Miami Law’s Professional Responsibility and Ethics Program, PREP alumni remain tied to it. As proud members of a diverse alumni group, we celebrate their professional achievements, personal growth, and contribution to the PREP legacy!

We’ve caught up with Sarah Bujold, J.D. Class of 2016. Sarah currently lives in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada and has recently worked as an In-House Counsel.

Share your best PREP memory and share any way in which you think your PREP experience has benefited you in your career.

My best memory of PREP is the process of developing and refining entertaining (and sometimes very funny!) hypotheticals for presentations. The socials were always fun too! The PREP experience helped me tremendously in developing my confidence in public speaking and presentation skills, all while exploring a topic that affects every aspect of legal practice.

Where have you been working since you graduated and where are you now?

I have been working as in-house counsel for child welfare agencies (similar to Florida’s Department of Children and Families). I started my career with an 18-month contract position at the Children’s Aid Society of the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin, where I covered for a lawyer who was on maternity leave and I worked as part of a team of four lawyers. When that position ended, an Indigenous agency, Nogdawindamin Family and Community Services, hired me to be the agency’s sole in-house lawyer. After ten months, I made the challenging decision to relocate to Kelowna, British Columbia with my husband, who recently obtained his commercial pilot’s license. I am actively exploring new opportunities in Western Canada.

What advice would you offer to current law students or recent graduates?

Adaptability is invaluable in life and in your career; be open to adjusting your goals and expectations, and always be willing to learn.

Describe Miami Law in three words.

Unique. Dynamic. Exciting. (I figure these words are preferable to the also applicable words: “Hot. Slow Elevators.” lol)
