On October 29, 2012, Judge Debra Nelson of Seminole County Florida denied the prosecution’s request to bar George Zimmerman’s lawyers from blogging about legal issues on a website, as well as using traditional news and social media, to comment about the case. Attorney
Judge Nelson said, “There has not been an overriding pattern of prejudicial commentary that will overcome reasonable efforts to select a fair and impartial jury.”
In April, the request was rejected by Judge Kenneth Lester, the previous judge in the case. Prosecutors requested the order for the second time, claiming that Mark O’Mara, Mr. Zimmerman’s lawyer, was jeopardizing the trial by making prejudicial statements in his comments to the traditional media, as well as on Twitter, Facebook, and a legal blog.
