The current pandemic has forced attorneys to move online, resulting in a sharp increase in virtual meetings, email correspondence, and usage of cloud-based storage.  

Ruth Hill Bro, co-chair of the ABA Cybersecurity Legal Task Force, recently warned that “law firms are attractive targets and the risk of cyber breaches multiplies as more employees work remotely.” Thus, heightening lawyers’ duties to remain competent in technology and diligent in their work.

In fact, today Bob Ambrogi, writing at lawsitesblog.com, reported that a New York law firm that represents many celebrities may have suffered a ransomware attack. If confirmed, he states that this would be the second firm attacked in the past two weeks. You can read his column here

“The most important goal for a law firm is protecting their data, whether working in the office or remotely,” explains Jill Rhodes, Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Option Care Health. Firm leaders must decide whether employees will use a company device or a personal device, and how their networks will be secured.
